Doddabetta is the highest mountain in the range of the Nilgiri Hills, one of the most majestic hill stations in Tamil Nadu. There is a reserve forest around the hills. The area is covered with forests, rhododendron trees, and thick coarse grasses.
This hill station in Ooty is the highest mountain of Nilgiri Hills, at a height of 2623m. January and February are quite cold with temperature ranging from 7 to 19 Celsius. It rains from June to September. The best time to visit this Ooty hill station is either in the month of March or October when the weather is very pleasant.
There is an observatory at the top of Doddabetta peak with telescope run by Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation. Panoramic sight of the plains of Mysore, the valley down and the plains of Coimbatore are visible from this point. On a very clear day, the peak gives an awesome view of the distant plains. Trekking arrangements are also made for those tourists who are interested in trekking near the Peak. The restaurant run by TTDC at the observatory gives the tourists a place to rest and enjoy the view outside. The Doddatebba Resort which is near the junction is the most tranquil location to stay at if you are visiting this place.
