Jammu is actually different Jammu city. Jammu and Kashmir are two separate regions in Himalayan Mountains that together form a State or Province in India. The state government has done much to encourage Jammu Kashmir tourism, because this state is predominantly dependent on tourists. Jammu city is the State’s winter capital as Srinagar the summer capital of the State gets covered with snow in winters.

Though Jammu is also situated at an altitude, i.e., in shivalik range, it remains warmer. The famous Vaishno Devi shrine, which is a Hindu temple is located in Jammu. Several other ancient temples of Hindu god Shiva are also located here. In fact, the city is referred to as temple city because of such large number of temples. Jammu tourism therefore comprises mostly of visits to these temples. The lake mansarovar is also in this part of the State. This lake is also sacred as per Hindu scriptures. Pilgrims often opt for a comprehensive Vaishno devi tour that covers most of Jammu temples and this lake. The city may have been formed around the 14th century before christ. There are a few historic remains, but most have been destroyed during subsequent wars, and invasions.

Kashmir tourism packages may or may not include a visit to this place. There are ample hotels in Jammu but since it is a holy place for Hindus, they may not be able to offer a room so ideally, a room should be booked in a hotel in Jammu before coming to this city. Tourists can choose to customize their jammu travel itinerary with the help of city guides and booklets that offer ample information about Jammu.
