Indian medical research council is placed in New Delhi and is the main body of Bio-Medical research. This is also one among the oldest medical research body in the world.
The Indian Research Fund Association was (IRFA) is the first organization established by the Indian government 1911 to offer funds to the medical research carried out by the people of India. There were some important changes which were done after the independence.
As a result, this organization was renamed as Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR).
The union health minister will monitor the activities of this organization. This association not only encourages the researches but also promotes human resources development.
It encourages young researchers and scientists. Today, this organization gives away 38 awards among which 11 awards are for young people accomplishing research in bio-medical field.
Some of the branches of the medical research councils and centres in India are central council for research in Ayurvedha and Siddha (CCRAS) in Delhi, Central Institute of Medical and Aromatic Plants( CDRI)
in Uttar Pradesh, Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) in Delhi, Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH) in Delhi.
These councils are the foundations that help to enhance the medical tutoring and researching in the country.
