Puri Tourist Places

Puri or Puri India is one of the popular tourist destinations in India. This city is in Orissa province of the country, which is now known as Odisha province. Hindus travel to this city because it has one of the shrines that is said to offer them moksha or liberation from their sins. Indeed, the city has many temples the most famous of which is the Jagannatha temple. The Hindu deities here are Lord Jagannatha, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra. Annually, the city witnesses a festive occasion called Jagannath rath yatra.

This can be very crowded indeed so unless tourist is interested in seeing the yatra in person, it is best avoided. Another thing about Puri is that the famous Sun temple of Konark is merely 36 kms from this city. Stone carving here are worth a look. The presiding deities in many of the temples were taken away and hid by the priests to prevent the muslim invaders destroying them. This is the reason most of these ancient temples do not have any formal worship being done here. Puri travel is worthwhile even for non-Hindus because this city is located on the coast facing the Bay of Bengal. Therefore, it has one of the best beaches in the country.
