Red Fort Tourist Places

Redfort of Delhi is also known as Lal Qila. This imposing structure is an architectural beauty that should be in the itinerary of every tourist visiting India’s capital. The reason this Fort is known as red fort is because its walls are all painted in red color. The Fort is very large and painting it red must have been quite a tedious task, considering that the original paint was white in color, at least part of it. One thing to note about Redfort is the red color that makes this conspicuous building more prominent amidst the surrounding buildings.

Shah Jahan, the son of Jehangir, and grandson of Akbar, one of the greatest Moghul emperors had the fort built. History of redfort reveals that the frame of what is known as “Diwan –e-Khas” , i.e., an important chamber of Emperor, was made of solid gold. In addition, this frame had designs embedded with costliest precious stones of that era. Emeperor Shah Jahan may have taxed people then, but he left a legacy that Indians enjoy to this date.

Exquisite carvings on marbles of Redfort are reminders of how skillful the workers were back then. The Red Fort remained with Moghul emperors till the last emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, was tried for treason in 1857. He lost possession of this fort, which then passed on to the British Empire.
