Mathura is actually a district in India’s Uttar Pradesh province. Vrindavan is a town in this district located about 10 kms away. However, there remains little distinction between the two now, so Mathura vrindavan are no longer much different. The place is also known as Brij, Braj, Brindavan, Vrindaban, Brundavan, or Vraj. It has a lot of mythological significance for Hindus because one of the chief deities of Hinduism, Lord Sri Krishna, was born here, and returned to this place later on to free his parents. The Sanskrit epic that narrates the story about Mathura and Lord Krishna dates back to 3000 BC.

Many temples are dedicated to Lord Krishna, and Radha. The idols are exquisitely carved and decorated in these temples. The overall environment is joyous and colorful in these temples with pleasant faces of gods and goddesses seemingly blessing people with happiness. ISKON too has a temple here called the Krishna Balram temple. Devotees visit temples like Banke Bihari Temple, Madan Mohan temple, Garud Govind temple, Radha Vallabh Temple, Sri Radha Raman Mandir, etc.  Other places worth visiting in the vicinity include Imli Tal, Kaliya Ghat, Kusuma Sarovar, Chira Ghat, Raj Ghat, and Varaha Ghat. The Ghats are all located on the banks of Yamuna River.  Mathura road is a diversion on agra delhi highway. Therefore, it is possible to travel from Delhi to Mathura on road. Mathura also has a railway station.

Most of the hotels in this township and district are budget hotels, but have required facilities for pilgrims. However, it is strongly advised to book a hotel in Mathura before embarking on journey because it may not be possible to find an accommodation in the last moment. Internet can be used to book a room in Mathura hotel.
